Remington College Collects 2605 Pints of Blood in 2010 through 3 Lives Effort

Remington College partners with America’s Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America to increase the number of minority blood donors

Heathrow, Fla. – (October 20, 2010) – Remington College has exceeded its goal of collecting 2,500 pints of blood through campus blood drives in 2010. Remington College collected 2,605 pints of blood through its 3 Lives campaign.

For the 3 Lives campaign, Remington College partnered with America’s Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America for a series of blood drives on every Remington campus.

The community involvement program is called 3 Lives because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated. The blood drives focus on the need for minority donors – especially African Americans.

According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), African American blood donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. Many sickle cell patients require frequent blood transfusions and it’s best for them to receive blood that closely matches their own.

“We would like to thank everyone who made our blood drives a success in 2010,” said Jack Forrest, Remington College President and CEO. “We will continue to highlight the need for minority blood donors as we provide much-needed blood for hospitals and blood centers in the communities where our students, faculty and staff live.”

The 3 Lives effort will continue in 2011, with the goal of exceeding this year’s collection total.

Based in Heathrow, Florida, Remington College offers career training through a variety of diploma, associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs at 20 campuses throughout the United States, including a new online campus.

The Value of Social Media: What’s a Tweet Really Worth?

eventbriteMost businesses—large and small alike—are urged to get in on the social media game in order to connect with customers, build SEO and ultimately increase sales. But what is a Tweet or a Facebook message or even a LinkedIn connection really worth?

A recent study by a San Francisco-based ticket sales startup, Eventbrite, quantified the buzz around its social media.

Twitter: A link shared on Twitter nets the company 43 cents in additional ticket revenue.

E-Mail: Using the “e-mail friends” feature on the site, an event shared through e-mail turns into $2.34 in ticket sales.

LinkedIn: This social site equals 90 cents in sales.

Facebook: But the winner—Facebook. Eventbrite nets an additional $2.52 when a user shares that he/she plans to attend an event on his or her wall.

What’s more, with increasing sales, this startup has secured $20 million in venture funding.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

eSchool Solutions aims to eliminate ‘lost learning days’ for the district’s 10,000+ students

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2010) – Robertson County Schools in Tennessee has selected Orlando-based eSchool Solutions® to provide the software to manage absentee teachers.

The eSchool Solutions software is scheduled to go live in the district this spring. It will streamline how the district manages teacher sick days and absences across the county.

Previously, the district used a manual method of managing absentee teachers, selecting subs and assigning the jobs at the school level. This required administrators and principals to handle the absentee needs of more than 630 teachers in the district.

eSchool projects that the new automated system will save the district money and help fight lost-learning days for students.

“We are very proud to be serving Robertson County Schools. We know that this district is working hard to improve its educational standards and get the most out of its teachers and its students,” said Lisa Welton, senior vice president of sales and marketing for eSchool Solutions.

“Our software is all about reducing what we call ‘lost learning days,’ which students can encounter when not supervised by the best possible substitute,” Welton noted. “Our system is the most efficient way to get qualified people into the classrooms.”

In the month of October, Robertson County Schools will install the latest software from eSchool Solutions—known as SmartFindExpress—that matches classrooms with the highest qualified subs. This new software system automates the process, while ensuring the highest qualified substitutes are placed in each class.
